A shoot from last week, Abigail a super baby with such a melancholy look that was quite captivating.

Had a portfolio shoot the other day, brilliant model, some great pics a few of which are below.
Had an interesting commercial shoot yesterday. Client who is an international winner of nail art design, wanted a tropical theme, the venue chosen was the Butterfly House near Sheffield who kindly let us use there facilities. Ended being a bit of a nightmare due to the heat and humidity inside the tropical centre. All my cameras and lenses fogged like mad, in the end I had to resort to lugging all the gear into the toilets and blasting them with hot air from the hand drier. Got a few weird looks, but hey ho, needs must and all that.
The shoot went very well apart from one model who was petrified of the python snake, but she eventually came round to the idea. Super girl a girl a real trooper.
A few images from the day.

Having been to Whitby to shoot the pre wedding pictures, I was eagerly looking forward to meeting this couple again to shoot their wedding day. Nina had even brought along a snow machine, as the ceremoney ended we were about to go off to another location for some pictures, on opening the door we encountered real snow, which fell in bucketloads, a great day.

Went down to Donington to The Priest House Hotel which sits precariously next to the River Trent. A delightful venue, the day was a little gloomy and overcast, but the couple were great to shoot and I really enjoyed the day.

Went out to Whitby to do a pre wedding shoot with Nina & Chris whose wedding I shot in December, the reason for shooting them in Whitby was because its were they first met
Cracking day cold but brilliant blue sky and sunshine by the yard.

Winter weddings are becoming more popular every year it seems there is an increase in clients who want to get married in winter. I think this is a great time for shooting wedddings and so from November through to Christmas I had a busy spell of weddings as well as the usual rush of portraits to do for christmas presents. So apologies to the rather late posting of these image galleries just finding the time to blog them. I will begin with the wedding of Michayla & Jason who were married at Whitley hall on the outskirts of Sheffield, it a really lovely place to celebrate a wedding , not like a hotel at all.

We always want the smiley picture, often children don’t behave as we want them to. During a studio session kids can be moody, stroppy, tired and fed up, does that mean we should not shoot these expressions,

Been difficult to post of late, been really snowed under, lots of studio pictures with Christmas just around the corner. Also shot a couple of weddings which I will be posting up this week.

I don’t often write about Camera’s, but I have just bought a carry about camera, a Panasonic LX3 and thought I would post up some of my thoughts on it. From a professional viewpoint one thing that has often made me wonder about guest camera’s I see at weddings, is how fast they focus, how much lag they have from the point of pressing the shutter button till recording the image. The first thing I noticed was how much slower it seems to be to work this camera, pressing the button is no guarantee the picture you looked at and shot is the one that comes out. Autofocus was a little iffy especially on moving subjects. Those are really the only bad points I could find. The lens on this camera is an absolute gem, an f2 Leica zoom with a range of 24mm to 60mm, giving some very nice wideangle shooting. Sharpness of the lens is incredible, Truly. My favourite mode is shooting in black and white, it renders scenes and people very well with little tweaking to the files afterword.
Here’s an image I shot of myself loved the light in this picture.

Another one shot at a wedding last weekend, no flash used just available light only

The camera also has the nice touch of being to shoot in full manual mode,as well as the usual settings, I prefer shooting in aperture or shutter priority. The macro facility is very good as well, as this image below shows
As you can see the image detail is incredible, a great little camera, and finally its shoots hd video as well, but be prepared for large files a recent 20 second clip is around 60 mb.
